There is no one type of autism, autism can show in numerous ways. Recently scientist have found many rare gene mutations associated with autism. In most cases autism is caused by a combination of autism risk genes and environmental factors that influence brain development in its early stages. Risk factors than contribute to a child having autism occur before and during birth. These risk factors include advanced parental age both mom and dad, maternal illness, certain difficulties during birth and oxygen deprivation to the baby's brain. Autism can show up in a number of ways including, difficulties in motor coordination, intellectual disability, attention and physical health issues.
